WHY YOUNG REFUGEE AND MIGRANT WOMEN?
With individuals fleeing war, conflict, and economic instability worldwide, human displacement is the highest ever recorded (1). Girls' and women’s vulnerability sharply increases during times of crisis, as they often travel without safe means of supporting themselves. Their dangers persist once they reach a destination country where they are often met with hostility and barriers to adequate education, employment, and housing, as well as other vital resources for their health and security (2). With needs unique from boys and men, girls and women require gender-specific services, particularly safe spaces to be heard, address their social isolation, and cultivate their potential (3).
Her{connect}Her focuses on young women, because Footage Foundation believes young people carry experiences, perspectives, and resolve that when harnessed, mobilize a force for good. When supported, they may not only serve as leaders of the future, but of the present.
